Kings of old used a royal seal, usually in the form of a signet ring used to place an impression on clay or melted wax. Kings used this seal to signify their authority and their identity. This unbrokened seal was evidence that the official document came straight from the king and showed his approval.

In the same way, God has placed His seal upon us, showing His approval and His authority upon our lives. He has sealed us with His Holy Spirit, the very presence of God. Therefore if we are sealed with His Holy Spirit, then how much more should we be careful about grieving His Spirit? Whether we are in a crowd of people or by ourselves, we have that seal with us, the Holy Spirit. Because we have the Spirit of God with us, whom obviously has feelings since He can be grieved, then we should definitely be aware of our every move and motive.

If we choose to watch a movie that has vulgar scenes or words in it (yes, I'm sure that most of it was funny) or decide to slander a brother or sister, or lie to cover up our messes, then we are subjecting the Holy Spirit to experience our every action. We should feel sorrow when we say things that we shouldn't or take part in anything that is ungodly, because we haven't considered the feelings of the One who poured out everything He had on the cross just for us. If God the Father could no longer look upon His Son while carrying the weight of the sin of the world on His shoulders as He hung on the cross, then how much more should we be aware of our every action and how it affects Him?

Set your heart and your mind upon the things of God and don't give way to the influence of the world. The world has its own wisdom which is contrary to the Word of God and is foolish. Guard the seal that your Heavenly Father has placed upon you with everything you have, because holiness requires deliberateness.
